Cherry Winks Cookies ~
4 cups crushed corn flakes cereal
2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
3/4 cup butter, softened
1 cup sugar
2 tbls milk
1 tsp vanilla
1 cup finelly cut, pitted dates (optional)
1/2 cup finely chopped maraschino cherries
ALSO ~ 15 maraschino cherries, cut into quarters
Pre-heat oven to 375.
Measure corn flakes and crush by hand to 2 cups; set aside.
Stir together flour, baking powder and salt; set aside.
In large mixing bowl, beat butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
Add eggs amd beat well.
Stir in milk and vanilla.
Gradually add flour mixture.
Mix until well combined.
Stir in chopped cherries and (if using) dates.
Portion dough using level measuring tablespoon.
Shape into ball.
Roll in crushed corn flakes cereal.
Place about 2inches apart on greased baking sheet.
Top each with a cherry quarter.
Bake in oven 10 minutes or until lightly browned.
Remove immediately from baking sheets.
Cool on wire racks.
Yield: about 5 dozen
Molasses crinkle cookie
Recipe from Betty Crocker's Cooky Book
Best Cooky of 1930-1935
3/4 cup soft shortening
1 cup packed brown sugar
1/4 cup molasses
2 1/4 cup flour
2 tsp. baking soda
1/4 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. cloves
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. ginger
Mix shortening, sugar, egg, and molasses thoroughly. Blend all dry ingredients; stir in. Chill.
Heat oven to 375 degrees F. Roll dough in 1 1/4 inch balls. Dip tops in sugar. Place balls, sugared side up, 3 inches apart on a greased baking sheet. Sprinkle each with 2-3 drops of water. Bake 10-12 minutes until set but not hard. Makes 4 dozen cookies.
